2012 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo
It’s Tuesday, so you know what that means! This week, on Let’s Talk Wine, we will be discussing the 2012 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo. This wine comes from the Langhe Region of Piedmont Italy, right outside the town of Alba. Barolo is the name of the wine and it is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barolo wines are sometimes referred to as ‘King’ of Piedmont.
Fratelli Alessandria is owned by Gian Battista and his family. They have been making wine in the region for over one-hundred and fifty years. Gian's motto has always been, “A great wine comes from a great vineyard”. After harvest and fermentation, this wine goes into old forty hectoliter French and Slovenian oak casks. Following that, the wine spends six months in stainless steel and then another six months in bottles before release.
Barolo’s are best in the Fall & Winter seasons as they are very full bodied. On the nose this wine is fruity and dry, with lots floral tones, finished with accents of minerals and grilled herbs. Fratelli Alessandria is an elegant wine with refined tannins and is best when paired with steak, Bolognese, stews, and roasted meats. This is a GREAT value wine as it is delicious at a wonderful price point.
